While the main event on the July 15, 2011 episode of SmackDown was between Kane and Randy Orton, the show's real focus was on the rivalry between Orton and Christian, building towards their confrontation for the World Heavyweight Championship at Money In the Bank.

Josh Mathews introduced Orton and asked him if he was worried about losing his title by disqualification to Christian. Orton insisted that wouldn't happen and called it "a cheap attempt for Christian to get at my title".

Christian appeared on the Titantron and said he wanted to give Orton a gift: a framed picture of when he smashed Orton in the face with the championship belt. Orton called the gesture "borderline pathetic", and Christian upped the ante by insulting his father, Cowboy Bob Orton.
