The Jacksonville City Council passed a rezoning ordinance Tuesday by a vote of 14 to 4 that will allow the former Garden Ridge to open as a poker room in Regency. The ordinance will allow the new poker room to acquire a liquor license. People in the Regency area didn’t necessarily agree with the vote. “I just can’t see a place for gambling being good for wholesomeness,” said resident Jason Warner. “Regency has its own set of challenges, so I don’t see it as a good thing bringing it here, but I could be wrong.” Misty Skipper, a spokeswoman for the poker room said in a statement: “We are really pleased with the outcome of the city council vote and appreciate their consideration and deliberation of the application.” The new facility should be open by February and is expected to bring 200 jobs into Jacksonville.
